First Day of Preschool!

This morning I dropped Lydia off for her first day of school. I don't have many words to say except I hope she has a fantastic day. She looked so grown up in her outfit this morning and was so proud to put on her book bag. I couldn't get her to get a book bag that was more her age. She had to get one just like her sissy. No matter what I showed her at the store, it just didn't compare to her sister's bookbag. :) It is just as big as her!

She was all set and ready to go this morning. She ate her breakfast and we were out the door. She walked right in her classroom, found her cubby and hung her book bag up all by herself. Then, she met the other kiddos on the rug and started reading a book. I quickly said good bye so she didn't see the tears in my eyes. I didn't want her to see me cry.

Why is the first day of school so hard? I am so happy she seemed so happy and ready for today. I just miss her so very much. My little one said good bye. Bye Lydia and good luck today!!! Enjoy it all! Mommy loves you!

Meet The Teacher!

This afternoon we had Meet the Teacher for Lydia. Yes, my Lydia is starting a 2 1/2 year old program at St. Paul Lutheran School. She will be in Mrs. Staples class on Wednesday and Fridays from 8:10am to 11:10am. She starts school this Wednesday.

I don't know how it happened, but my little Lydia wanted to start school this year. We originally checked out this program a few weeks ago and toured the school. But, I decided I wasn't ready to send her to school and wanted to keep her all to myself. But, Lydia had a different idea. She was crying the day we took Lillian to school and kept telling me, "I want to go to school!" So, I got her in to school just last Friday. It was a sign from above!

Now, here we are. Lydia says she is ready to go although I don't know what that truly means to her. Mommy is sad to let her go, but knows it is the best place for her to be this year. She plays with all of Lililan's friends and now she needs friends her own age. She needs it for behavior- socially and emotionally. I know she needs to learn to share with kiddos her own age and not just get used to the older kiddos giving in to her. She is darn cute! :)

That was the rational part of my brain talking, now tell that to my heart. I will miss her sweet face and I am used to having her all to myself. Now, I have to share her just like I had to do with her older sister. Why does it seem like it is happening to fast? She is my sunshine and now I have to trust someone else to not harm her and to put her first. I hope they hold her close and cherish her as much as I do!

Mommy loves you Lydia! Good luck on your first day of school and I hope it is a day you will always remember! You are so bright, sassy and full of life. I hope you shine to your fullest potentional now and always.

Love,

Mommy

The Hand Holders:
A Tribute To Caregivers

There is no job more important than yours,
no job anywhere else in the land.
You are the keepers of the future;
you hold the smallest of hands.

Into your care you are trusted
to nurture and care for the young,
and for all of your everyday heroics,
your talents and skills go unsung.

You wipe tears from the eyes of the injured.
You rock babies brand new in your arms.
You encourage the shy and unsure child.
You make sure they are safe from all harm.

You foster the bonds of friendships,
letting no child go away mad.
You respect and you honour their emotions.
You give hugs to each child when they're sad.

You have more impact than does a professor,
a child's mind is moulded by four;
so whatever you lay on the table
is whatever the child will explore.

Give each child the tools for adventure,
let them be artists and writers and more;
let them fly on the wind and dance on the stars
and build castles of sand on the shore.

It is true that you don't make much money
and you don't get a whole lot of praise,
but when one small child says "I love you",
you're reminded of how this job pays.

First Day of First Grade!

Ready or Not Here She Comes! Lillian woke up so excited this morning for Frist Grade. We were ready on time, took pictures outside, out the door and walked to school. We were even early! Whew!

Mrs. Blain was waiting with smiles at her door. Lillian walked right in and was ready to do her morning routine. Of course, me being me, I had to stay and help even though she told me she had it under control. I just wanted her day to go smooth.

We just had lunch with Lillian and she was nothing but smiles. She told me all about her morning and how they still had art this afternoon. She said Mrs. Blain was really nice and she liked her a lot. I am so happy she is still smiling on her first day.

Good luck to all the kiddos as they enter school this year!

Meet the Teacher!

Lillian met her first grade teacher today- Mrs. Blain! Lillian was so excited to be back in Bradley Elementary visiting her new teacher Mrs. Blain, her old teacher Mrs. Keeley and all her friends. She is so proud of her school and made me visit the Music room, Science Lab and Art Room even though we were there last year. But, I smiled and let her take me on the tour.

She is ready for tomorrow morning to turn into a First Grader. I am so proud of her and it makes me smile to see how excited she is for school. Of course, Lydia shined today too and everyone remembered her too! :) How can you forget!

Here is to a great year at Bradley Elementary! Good luck Lillian and always do your best!! Mommy and Daddy love you! Get ready Mrs. Blain..she is one tough cookie! Or should I say sassy cookie! :)

Learning Together in First Grade
By Barbara Gruber & Sue Gruber

First grade is a special place,
See the big smile on my face.

Games to play and songs to sing,
We learn about everything.
Pencils, papers, books to read,
We have everything we need.

So much to learn, so much to do,
We must listen to you-know-who.
Our class is a busy bunch,
Look- it’s almost time for lunch!

We know all the ABC’s,
Right down to the XYZ’s.
Reading, writing, spelling too,
We even know two plus two.

We learn together all year,
Second grade will soon be here!
There’s time for work, time for play,
Learning new things every day.

First grade is a special place,
See the big smile on my face.

VBS 2011

PANDAMANIA hit Fort Leavenworth, Kansas this summer! And yes it was loud, wild and out of control...in a GREAT way! Lillian attended Vacation Bible School on post this week. Can you believe she attended along with 532 of her closest friends? It was a great way to end our summer.

The volunteers were amazing! I can't imagine the effort it took to pull off all the crafts, activities, snacks, music and dancing that the kiddos learned in three days. Lillian and some of the children (volunteer basis) performed tonight at Frontier Chapel. They show cased what they learned this week and sang four songs. I recored three of them. You can not see Lillian due to the mass amount of children, but she was there singing her heart out and doing her motions. She had such a fantastic time and is ready to go back next year. Lydia wants to attend too and she might make the age cut off! :) Either way, she is always there to support her big sister!

We have had a wonderful summer with visits to Hancock Pool, Wollman Aquatic Center, CoCo Keys, Worlds of Fun, Schlitterbaun, splash pads, friends visiting us from Texas and us visiting friends in Texas. I can't even begin to list all the wonderful activities the family has had this summer.

Now, we are entering another year at Fort Leavenworth. Lillian starts 1st grade on Tuesday and is thrilled she got the teacher she wanted, okay mom wanted! :) Lydia and I will hold the fort down all day long and keep insanely busy. Both girls will start dance back up soon in September (Lillian will take jazz, ballet/tap and dance team and Lydia will take ballet/tap), Girls Scouts will start back up this month and Lillian will continue to take swimming lessons. I almost forgot Lydia will have gymnastics too!

So, as you can see, the fun goes on and on and on...for the kiddos or for me???
Love you all and enjoy what is left of summer!
